About
For many centuries the traditional Norwegian music has been played at festive events. It feels mysterious in many ways, perhaps especially because of its multifaceted sound. Often both the feel of joy and despair can be present in the same tune.
Rygir is all about bringing this music to a wider audience, with strong focus on playing it with the energy it deserves. The members use the twelve-string guitar, traditional hardanger fiddle, ordinary fiddle, which makes a full and tight sound.
The band name is derived from the the historic name of the inhabitants in county Rogaland in Norway. This is where the band has its base. Torbjørn Grindheim has folk music experience as the solo-act "Strengeleik", and as a rock musician in bands such as "Toxic". Stig Helgeland has experience from traditional folk music groups, like "Vibå Spelemannslag", as well as playing solo at folk dances.
